Sarah Palin, "Unfiltered"

Announcing her intention to write a book, former veep candidate Sarah Palin says that "this will be a wonderful, refreshing chance for me to get to tell my story, that a lot of people have asked about, unfiltered."

When politicians and corporate honchos use the word unfiltered in this context, it of course means unchallenged.

Welcome to the Show, Rookie

Watching Obama's press conference last night, it was nice to see that Helen Thomas can still bring the heat at 85! The new president was sailing smoothly through what amounted to a one-candidate debate, giving long-winded wonky answers to everything, until he called on her toward the end of the event. She wasted no time in throwing a high hard one: "Thank you, Mr. President ... Do you know of any country in the Middle East that has nuclear weapons?"

It was the only time he really seemed rattled. The best he could come up with was "I'm not going to speculate."

"I didn't ask you to speculate," she appeared to be saying when they jerked the microphone away from her.

I guess the policy of pretending we don't know that Israel has nukes is still in place.
